Two youths from the RM of Minitonas are facing arson charges after being arrested by police this past week in connection to a bridge fire.
On September 14, 2013, at approximately 4:30 pm, Swan River RCMP and Minitonas Fire Department were dispatched to a bridge fire on 2nd Avenue in Minitonas.
Police investigation showed the cause of the fire to be arson. On September 17, 2013, Swan River RCMP arrested two 17-year-old male youths of the RM of Minitonas in relation to the fire. The youths have been released to their parents on a promise to appear, with their first court appearance set for November 6, 2013, in Swan River.
RCMP report that no injuries were sustained as a result of this incident. The fire caused considerable damage to the bridge, which is now closed to ensure public safety.
