On April 30, 2009 at about 5 a.m., RCMP Chemawawin Detachment responded to a report of a stabbing on a local road in the Community of Chemawawin Cree Nation. 

At present, Chemawawin RCMP Detachment, with the assistance of the Winnipeg RCMP Serious Crime Unit, the Thompson RCMP Major Crime Unit, the Dauphin RCMP Major Crime Unit and The Pas RCMP Forensic Identification Section, are investigating the murder of a 28-year-old man and the attempted murder of an 18-year-old woman. 

The deceased has been identified as Albert Abraham Young Jr. of the Chemawawin Cree Nation. The 18-year-old is not being identified at this time.

A post mortem is currently underway at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre.

A 19-year-old male has been arrested for 2nd degree murder and attempted murder and is currently in police custody. Formal charges are expected to be laid in the near future.

The investigation is continuing.
