RCMP are currently investigating a head-on collision involving a police vehicle that occurred earlier this week in the RM of Sifton.

On October 3, 2013, shortly before 6:30pm, an RCMP West District Traffic Services officer was on patrol westbound on Highway 1 near PR 254, in the RM of Sifton. The officer noted a 2009 Ford Expedition traveling eastbound on Highway 1 at a high rate of speed. The RCMP officer activated the emergency equipment in attempt to stop the vehicle, however, the vehicle continued to travel at high-rate of speed through the community of Oak Lake. The vehicle came to a dead-end road, known as the old Highway 1, and attempted to make a u-turn, at which time the driver collided head-on with the police vehicle.

Police say that the driver of the Expedition, identified as a 24-year-old-man of no fixed address, was arrested and transported to Virden District Hospital. The man was treated and released back into police custody. The RCMP member involved in the collision received minor injuries.

RCMP report that numerous charges are still being determined in this matter. Investigation has revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Moosomin, Saskatchewan.
