On October 5, 2013, at about 4pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP, Fire and EMS were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1, two miles west of MacGregor, Manitoba.

Early investigation shows that an eastbound Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner pick-up truck rear-ended another eastbound car on the Trans-Canada highway. Police say that four people were in the car.

RCMP report that two adult males were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A 17-year-old male youth of Austin, Manitoba, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 14-year-old male youth, in the same car, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He has since succumbed to his injuries. The 45-year-old male of Elie who was driving the pick-up truck was not injured.

The investigation continues with the assistance of the Criminal Crash Investigation Team and an RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist. Charges are being contemplated. Alcohol is not considered a contributing factor.
