On October 28, 2013 just after 3:30 pm, Parkland RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a collision in Gilbert Plains between a motor vehicle and a train.

Initial investigation indicates that a 2009 Colbalt was traveling south on Highway 274 when it collided with the side of a eastbound Via Rail Passenger train at a level crossing. The vehicle was reported to have struck the side of the train near the engine.

Police say that the crossing is reported to be equipped with crossing signs and flashing lights.

RCMP report that the driver, a 17-year-old female youth from the Gilbert Plains area, was transported to hospital with minor injuries. There was no one else in the vehicle and there were no other injuries reported.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation.
