The City of Steinbach will be celebrating Arbor Day in the coming week and will be encouraging future generations to do the same.

Joyce Purchase, Landscape Technician with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, will be visiting the elementary schools in Steinbach and providing students with demonstrations on how to plant and care for White Spruce seedlings. Students are then provided with their own seedling to take home, plant, and care for.

“This is a valuable project,” said Purchase. “It’s good for the environment to plant trees, and it teaches kids about conservation and the importance of giving back to the planet instead of always taking. It also teaches the kids responsibility in caring for nature.”

The City purchases the seedlings from the Manitoba Forestry Association office in Sandilands and has been promoting this program in schools for over 30 years.
