On December 7, 2013, shortly after 11:30pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP were advised that two young men had left their cabin at approximately 4pm to go snowmobiling and had not returned as scheduled.

Police conducted a search of the cabin location and were unable to come up with any idea as to where the riders were going. On December 8, shortly before 9am, police learned that the men may have been heading towards an area known as Anson Hut. Two members of the Lee River Snow Riders, along with members of the Bird River and Lac Du Bonnet Fire Departments, attended the area to assist in the search for the missing men.

RCMP report that the two men, ages 22 and 29, were located on the Anson snowmobile trail near Bird River where one of their snowmobiles had broken down. In an attempt to get to the Anson Hut for shelter, the riders went through the ice. Both men spent the night on the trail.

Police say that both men were transported to hospital where it is reported that they are in stable condition.
