A Steinbach woman is facing numerous charges, including impaired driving, after recently being arrested by Steinbach RCMP.

On December 9, 2013, Steinbach RCMP received a report of a hit and run which occurred at a traffic light along Highway 12 N, within city limits. It was reported that a Dodge Caravan had rear-ended a vehicle and fled the scene without stopping or checking on the occupant of the other vehicle.

Police were provided with a licence plate number and later observed the vehicle driving North on Highway 12, nearly striking a police vehicle patrolling for the suspect.

Police say that the suspect vehicle was stopped and it’s driver was subsequently found to be impaired, as well as driving a motor vehicle while disqualified. It was learned that the vehicle had been stolen by the suspect just before the accident.

RCMP report that a 28-year-old female from Steinbach was taken into custody for theft of motor vehicle, impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. She was transported to the Steinbach detachment where she turned violent and damaged property of the RCMP. She remains in police custody and faces multiple charges in relation to the incident.
