On April 30, 2014, shortly before 12:30am, Prairie Mountain RCMP responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 45, approximately 16 kilometres east of Russell, Manitoba.

RCMP were first to arrive on scene and discovered a minivan on its roof in several feet of water in the north ditch. It appeared that the vehicle had been traveling east on Highway 45 when it left the road and struck an approach, flipping on its roof.

Local fire and EMS also attended the scene.

RCMP report that the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, a 36-year-old male from Elphinstone, Manitoba, was extracted from the minivan and transported to Russell and District Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police say that the driver was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor in this collision. A RCMP Forensic Traffic Reconstructionist attended the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation.
