Motorists and farmers will be using the same roads over the next few weeks and Keystone Agricultural Producers urges them all to play it safe.

For motorists, this mean respecting farmers’ rights to use roadways when moving their  large tillage and seeding equipment to the field.

“We are asking drivers to slow down when approaching this type of equipment to determine how fast it’s going, then follow at a reasonable distance until it’s safe to pass – and be prepared to make a wide pass,” said KAP president Doug Chorney.

“Also, watch for turn signals on the equipment and lane changes before passing.”

Additionally, Chorney urged farmers to clearly mark their equipment and use appropriate lighting to alert motorists.

“Safety and consideration are the keys to ensuring we all return home safely at the end of the day,” he said.
