On July 12, 2014, at approximately 8:27pm, Blue Hills RCMP responded to a call of an ATV collision at the Rivers Reservoir spillway, approximately 29 km northwest of Brandon near the Town of Rivers.

Initial police investigation shows that a 58-year-old woman from Rivers, Manitoba, attempted to drive down an embankment by the Rivers Reservoir spillway. She lost control of the ATV, striking a 39-year-old male from Brandon, who was fishing at that location. The female was pronounced deceased on scene. The male was knocked into the water, which had a significant current.

Search and rescue efforts were made by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and the Office of the Fire Commissioner to locate the man. At this time, he has still not been located and is presumed drowned. Search efforts are ongoing.

RCMP report that  alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this incident. It is believed the driver of the ATV was wearing a helmet.

A RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
