On August 13, 2014, at approximately 9pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report of two girls, 14 and 16 years of age, who had gone missing in a remote location while on a group camping and canoe trip on Elbow Lake. The location was near the Ontario border, northeast of Lac du Bonnet.

Police say that the two girls, one from Winnipeg and the other from East St. Paul, were last seen by their fellow campers at 4:30pm on August 13, when they went to pick berries.

RCMP Search and Rescue was engaged, as was Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship, Office of the Fire Commissioner, Casara and Search and Rescue Manitoba. A helicopter located the two girls within a kilometre of the camp on a rock ridge just after 7am on August 14, 2014. The two girls were rescued by helicopter and no injuries were reported.
