On September 1, 2014, at about 9:30am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a call of distress from a hiker on the Mantario trail near Moosehead lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.

Police say that the hiker was in a party of three from Winnipeg when he began experiencing severe abdominal pain.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP members, with the help of a float plane from Adventure air from Lac du Bonnet, rescued the hiker. He was transferred to hospital via ambulance.

RCMP would like to remind the public that when planning a hike, always have a method for contacting others if an emergency arises. Bring a cell phone and have provisions to make a fire. Check local weather conditions for the duration of your hike and always let others know where you are going and when you are expected to arrive there.
