While Christopher Gunning was born in Illinois and lives in Texas, the new U.S. Consul to Manitoba has a strong Manitoba connection. Gunning’s wife Tracie was born in Altona and the two were married in Winnipeg with both of their children being born in the R.M. of Stanley.

A career U.S. Diplomat, Gunning has served in Japan and Bangladesh prior to being assigned to the Winnipeg Consulate. The Consulate’s mandate is to report to U.S. policymakers at the Embassy in Ottawa and in Washington about developments and opinions in Manitoba that affect the U.S.-Canada relationship and work to advance bilateral trade and commercial activities.
