Residents of the rural municipalities of La Broquerie and Ste. Anne, as well as the Town of Niverville, will soon be able to safely walk or bike to their destinations instead of having to share local roads with cars, trucks and farming equipment.

Projects in each of these communities are being completed thanks to the Small Communities Transportation Fund, which reserves a part of the province’s annual federal Gas Tax Fund allocation to help address the active transportation and public transportation needs of Manitoba’s smaller communities.

The three projects being announced include construction of a new walking path in the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie and a new sidewalk in the Town of Niverville, both being completed this spring, as well as a new wheelchair ramp and sidewalk recently completed in the Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne.

The walking paths beautify our community and support our growth. They connect the community and make it personable. Frequent use by our residents illustrates the popularity of the walking paths. All in all, walking paths are a meaningful contributor to our healthy community. ~ Lewis Weiss, Reeve – RM of La Broquerie

Each of these projects will improve accessibility, increase pedestrian and cyclist safety, and promote the enjoyment of healthy lifestyles through active transportation.
