Clayton Ewert, a 48-year-old Kemnay, Manitoba man, has been charged following a shooting incident where a West Traffic Services RCMP officer was shot. The officer’s injuries were non-life threatening.

On May 15, 2015, at about 6:30pm, RCMP officers responded to a complaint of an assault at a local residence. Upon arrival, officers were threatened by Clayton Ewert before he fired a firearm at them, striking one of the officers. The male officer has since been released from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

RCMP report that Ewert has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of uttering threats to kill, two counts of assault and one count each of discharging a firearm with intent and using a firearm in the commission of the offence of attempted murder.

Ewert has been remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in Brandon Provincial Court on May 19, 2015.

The investigation, led by RCMP Major Crime Services, is continuing.
