Sprague RCMP have implemented a new phone number (204-437-2222) for the public to file reports with the police.

Police say that the idea behind the move was to make the number easier to remember for area residents and in doing so, increase public safety.

Currently Buffalo Point First Nation is not set up for 911 service and must dial the police, ambulance or fire services directly. The new number should allow for less confusion.

The previous emergency number will still be call forwarded for the foreseeable future to allow for a safer transition.

General information:

  • phone number can be used to report all incidents to the police whether the matter is urgent or non-urgent
  • calling this number is the most efficient method to get your concern to the attention of the police in a timely fashion
  • it is not to replace 911 which is still recommended for emergencies in areas where 911 service is available (not currently in Buffalo
    Point)
  • calls to this number are routed through the RCMP dispatch service to which police officers can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • because Sprague RCMP and Steinbach RCMP are amalgamated, it is common for officers to be dispatched from either detachment
  • for general inquiries, the administration phone number of 204-437-2041 is still available for daytime hours Tuesday through Thursday
