The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that officers at the Sprague, Manitoba border crossing seized a portable methamphetamine laboratory from a traveler’s vehicle on June 4, 2015.

Officers with the RCMP Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response Team wear hazardous materials suits to dismantle a portable methamphetamine laboratory intercepted by the CBSA.

During a secondary search of the vehicle, CBSA officers seized the vehicle and its contents, which included a backpack containing materials for a suspected methamphetamine production laboratory. Officers also seized 85 grams of suspected methamphetamine in a plastic bottle.

The suspect and the evidence were turned over to the RCMP. The RCMP Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response Team, as well as the Office of the Fire Commissioner and local fire department attended the scene to dismantle the lab and render the scene secure for further investigation.

RCMP report that Derek Olson, 35, from Wadena, Minnesota, has been charged with production of methamphetamine, importing/exporting methamphetamine and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He remains in custody at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
