During the early morning hours of July 3, 2015, Moose Lake RCMP were called to a residence in Crossing Bay. Officers arrived at the scene where a 62-year-old man was found, suffering from critical injuries.

Police say that the victim was transported to hospital where he remains however is not expected to survive.

Initial police investigation led officers to a 23-year-old male suspect known to the victim. The suspect was arrested without incident shortly after officers arrived. The two men are known to each other and are both from the same community, located approximately 700 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.

RCMP report that Earl Peter Audi Lathlin has been charged with aggravated assault and is scheduled to appear in court in The Pas on July 6, 2015. The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of Winnipeg RCMP Major and Serious Crime Units and The Pas Forensic Identification Services.
