On June 28, 2009 around 5:30 AM Portage la Prairie RCMP received a complaint of an injured youth on the 100 block of 5th St. NE.
When police arrived they found a 16-year-old girl seated on a door step. The youth had suffered a head injury. Portage la Prairie Ambulance
attended and transported the youth to Portage General Hospital. The youth was then transferred to Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg.

Police have determined that the youth was a victim of an aggravated assault. On June 30, 2009 a suspect was arrested and taken into custody. Later in the day a search warrant was executed on a residence in MacGregor, MB. The suspect, a 17 year old male, is currently in custody to appear in court at a later date. The RCMP Forensic Identification Service are assisting with the investigation.

The suspect, a 17 year old male appeared in Portage La Prairie Provincial Court on July 6th, 2009 and was charged with attempt murder. He was remanded in custody, and will make another court appearance on July 29th 2009 with respect to the charge.
