On December 24, 2015, at approximately 5:24pm, Steinbach RCMP were called to the scene of an off road vehicle collision in the Rural Municipality of Hanover. The collision occurred in a field approximately 200 yards north of Highway 311.

Police say that a snowmobile, driven by a 61-year-old Blumenort area man, struck a row of hay bales causing the driver to be thrown approximately 50 feet from impact. The driver was wearing a helmet and was conscious at the time of the incident. He was then transported via STARS to a Winnipeg Hospital and was initially listed as being in stable condition when transported however was later downgraded to critical condition. On December 28, 2015, the man succumbed to his injuries.

RCMP report that alcohol was not a factor in this incident, however, low lighting may have been a contributing factor.
