On July 4, 2009, at 10:06 AM, Virden RCMP were informed of a single motorcycle accident approximately 3 kilometres east of the Saskatchewan – Manitoba border on Highway 2.

Two motorcycle’s were traveling westbound in line. The lead motorcycle which was approximately 1 kilometre ahead of the other passed a semi-truck and the second motorcycle followed to do the same. As the second motorcycle was coming back into the westbound lane there was a loss of control with the motorcycle crashing on the highway. The 63-year-old female passenger from North Bay, Ontario was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, the driver of this motorcycle, was taken to Redvers Saskatchewan and has been transported to Winnipeg for further treatment.

The motorcycle was a 2007 Harley Davidson and was pulling a homemade trailer. The highway was slippery due to mud from the construction of an oil well site in the area and a recent rain. Efforts had been made by the constructing company to remove the mud but some had remained on the highway.

Alcohol is not considered a factor and all involved were wearing helmets.

The investigation continues.
