On April 7, 2016 at approximately 4:30am, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to the shooting of two residents of Dakota Tipi First Nation. The victims, one adult male and one adult female, were both taken to hospital.

At approximately 1:20pm on the same day, the RCMP Emergency Response Team along with Police Dog Service members arrested a male suspect in the community of Dakota Tipi First Nation. The arrest was a direct result of a tip received by police from a local community member.

Police say that the suspect was arrested without incident and no one was injured. RCMP are continuing to investigate.
