A 34-year-old man is facing numerous firearms charges after recently being arrested by Steinbach RCMP.

On April 10, 2016, Steinbach RCMP with the Manitoba Conservation were investigating the illegal harvesting of wood on Crown forest land in the RM Reynolds near the Town of Richer, Manitoba. While attending an address on Provincial Road 302 in Richer, Steinbach RCMP located an improperly stored firearm in a residence.

Police say that a warrant of arrest was issued for 34-year-old Joshua Bert Ross, which included charges of possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, two counts of possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose and five charges of failing to comply with the conditions of a recognizance.

RCMP report that Joshua Ross was located later that evening and remanded into custody.

Steinbach RCMP would like to remind citizens that timber on crown land is protected by Provision 28 of the Forest Act. Without being authorized under a timber cutting right, cutting or removing 2.5m3 or less of timber on or from Crown-owned forest land, can carry a fine of up to $299.65. As well, Provision 28.2 states that being a person who knows or ought to know that timber was cut or removed in contravention of The Forest Act, possesses or acquires 2.5m3 or less of the timber, can carry a fine of up to $299.65.
