“The Steinbach Constituency is an active region with many worthwhile projects happening or being planned every year. I am glad that many have received support this year through the Community Places Program,” said Goertzen. “The grants are made possible because of engaged local community groups and because of the support of all Manitobans.”

The following local projects have been approved for funding:

  • Blumenort Recreation Association: $10,000 for Park Upgrades
  • City of Steinbach: $35,000 for the Soccer Park building housing washrooms, change rooms and a canteen.
  • City of Steinbach: $10,000 contribution for the construction of a BMX bike track at A.D. Penner Park.
  • Kleefeld Recreation Association: $15,000 for upgrades to the Recreation Centre.
  • Mennonite Heritage Village: $10,000 for refurbishing work on buildings.
  • Mitchell Community Centre: $20,000 for development of Amberfield Park.
  • Serving Seniors Inc: $1500 for Age Friendly Gardens
  • Southwood Parent Advisory Council: $18,000 First Phase of Southwood Community Nature Playground.
  • Steinbach Family Resource: $15,000 Road Safety Play Park

Goertzen noted that while the Community Places Program provides grant money from the provincial government, much of the money for the supported projects comes from local fundraising programs, donated labour or other levels of funding.

“The residents of our region are known for their generosity in time and resources. That generosity has made our region strong and has made these projects possible,” said Goertzen.
