On July 13, 2016, at approximately 5:15pm, Churchill RCMP responded to a report of a capsized canoe in the Churchill River.

Police say that two local tour operators, who were notified of the incident, responded to the scene and were able to pull an adult male, a five-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy from the river, all of who were from Winnipeg. The father and his two children were taken via ambulance to local hospital where the five-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries.

RCMP believe that the incident is not suspicious in nature. The occupants were wearing life jackets in this incident.

RCMP in Manitoba want to remind everyone to be cautious when boating. Be cognizant of conditions and prepare for possible emergencies on the water.
