Scene of the accident at Lake of the Prairies bridge.

On August 9, 2009 at approximately 10:30pm, RCMP Roblin Detachment were dispatched to a fatal collision involving a fuel tanker Super B about 11 kilometres west of Roblin on Highway 5 at the Lake of the Prairies bridge near the Saskatchewan border.

Investigation at present indicate that the fuel tanker Super B was traveling eastbound on Highway 5 when a tire at the back of the tanker blew causing loss of control and forcing the unit into the guardrail while the unit was at the curve at the bottom of the hill just prior to the bridge.

The fuel truck caught fire and totally burned while being partially into the water and onto rocks. The driver was ejected from the truck and killed on impact. The identity of the driver has yet to be confirmed.
