The City’s Public Works Department is currently conducting preventative maintenance on streets in Steinbach.

Public Works staff are busy sealing cracks and asphalt seams on residential streets. The process involves cleaning out the cracks and then refilling the cracks with a hot sealant, which protects the street pavement by preventing moisture from seeping into the base material. This maintenance prevents premature deterioration of the pavement as a result of frost upheavals and other moisture problems.

Public Works Department Head, Randy Reimer wants to remind the public to practice caution and consideration when passing road workers and machinery.

Reimer notes that this type of work is part of ongoing maintenance to protect newly constructed streets as well as streets that have had recent asphalt overlays.
