On September 24, 2009, shortly after 6am, RCMP Oakbank Detachment were dispatched to a single motorcycle collision on Fermor Avenue near Murdock Road just east of Winnipeg.

RCMP have since learned that the motorcycle was heading west on Fermor Avenue when a deer jumped in front of the motorcycle, forcing the rider to take evasive measures and ultimately put the motorcycle down.

The rider, a 27-year-old woman from Lorette, was wearing a helmet and although she hit the ground, suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries. She was ambulanced to the Health Sciences Centre and has since been released from the Hospital.

Indications are that the helmet prevented some serious and / or potentially fatal injuries in this collision.

This is a clear example that wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle will reduce injuries or save lives.
