On September 27, 2009 at about 10am, the Lynn Lake RCMP were informed that a 33-year-old man from the community of Lac Brochet had not been seen since 2pm the previous day.

The man was working for Stoffel Surveys at a remote surveying camp, cutting tree lines approximately 30 kms North of Lac Brochet near Misty Lake when he went missing.

Resources from the local RCMP, as well as 5 members of the RCMP Search and Rescue Team, were dispatched to the remote location. With the support of 25 volunteers from the community and 15 local Canadian Rangers, the man was located around 9am on September 28, 2009, by his camp fire. The smoke was seen by locals and its position was pinpointed by the surveying company helicopter, which had been volunteered for the search.

The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner also provided logistical support for this operation and were getting ready to send a team to assist with the search.

Temperatures reached zero degrees last night and there was snow on the ground. The man did not require any medical attention.
