The RCMP, during the month of October 2009, will conduct a highly focused Selective Traffic Enforcement Program targeting non-use of seatbelts and child restraints.
Traffic Services units and Detachments across the Province will be conducting seat belt enforcement initiatives in communities and on all roadways by increased vigilance during regular patrols and special check stops.
Educating the public in safe driving practices is the priority, and the focus continues to be the high risk behaviour of not wearing seatbelts/using child restraints that put drivers and passengers most at risk.
“The RCMP is committed to ensuring the safety of everyone traveling on Manitoba roads,” said Assistant Commissioner Bill Robinson, Commanding Officer, RCMP “D” Division Manitoba. “Our aim is to remind the driving public not only that wearing a seatbelt and using child restraints reduce serious injury and death, but also that it’s the law.”
“We are doing our part by raising public awareness about road safety and conducting traffic enforcement programs,” said Insp. Mark LeMaistre, Officer in Charge of D Division Traffic Services. “The driving public have to do their part by adjusting their driving habits to make Manitoba’s roads safer. The result will be fewer injuries and deaths on Canada’s roadways.”
This month-long initiative will be further enhanced during October 9-12 when the focus is expanded to include all high risk behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk, these are: impaired driving, non use of seat belts, and all aspects related to aggressive driving.
Be safe, buckle up, don’t speed and don’t drink and drive.
