Valuable consumer protection information is in the 2010 Protect Yourself calendar, available free of charge from consumers’ groups, seniors’ organizations and bilingual service centres throughout the province, Finance Minister Rosanne Wowchuk announced.

“The Protect Yourself calendar is another tool to inform Manitobans about relevant consumer information,” said Wowchuk. “The calendar provides helpful information on how to protect themselves in the marketplace.”

The calendar is available in English and French. Topics this year include investment resources, dealing with fraud, problem
gambling, home safety, landlord and tenant issues, signing a contract, frauds and scams, charitable donations as well as
important contacts.

The calendar is also available by calling the Consumers’ Bureau at 204-945-3800 or 1-800-782-0067 (toll-free) or by e-mailing consumersbureau@gov.mb.ca.

The calendar is made possible through a partnership between the Consumer and Corporate Affairs Division of Manitoba Finance, Crime Stoppers, the Manitoba Seniors and Healthy Aging Secretariat, Manitoba Public Insurance, RCMP, Manitoba Gaming Control Commission, the Age & Opportunity SafetyAid program, Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, Competition Bureau and Canada Revenue Agency.

The Manitoba Consumers’ Bureau responds to consumer complaints and provides information about a variety of issues.  Additional consumer tips may be found on the Canadian Consumer Information Gateway at consumerinformation.ca or on the Consumers’ Bureau website at gov.mb.ca/finance/cca/consumb.
