On December 19, 2009, members of the Little Grand Rapids RCMP Detachment were on routine patrol in the community of Pauingassi, when they observed a small single engine aircraft land in the community.

Members attended the location of the aircraft and performed a “ramp check” for liquor being smuggled into the community. During a search of the aircraft, investigators located and seized 242 bottle of liquor, and  24 pounds of yeast. The estimated street value is in excess of $36,000.00.

The community of Pauingassi, MB, located approximately 300 KM NE of Winnipeg, is designated a “Dry Community”. The community has a by-law in place which prohibits the possession, consumption or transportation of liquor into the community.

The lone male passenger, who chartered the aircraft, is from the community and was arrested and charged under the Liquor Control Act for transporting liquor to a place where it may not lawfully be kept. The liquor was seized as evidence and the matter is before the courts.
