Following an 8 month investigation and in consultation with Manitoba Justice, more charges have now been laid against Ernest Leon Mentuck in connection with the death of Brent Robert Malcolm.

RCMP Waywayseecappo Detachment assisted by Brandon Major Crime Unit have laid manslaughter and trafficking in a controlled substance charges against 36-year-old Ernest Leon Mentuck of Waywayseecappo F.N.

The investigation into the death of a 38-year-old Brent Robert Malcolm began on May 12, 2009, when the victim was found deceased in his residence in Waywayseecappo F.N. A Post Mortem held on May 13, 2009, at Brandon General Hospital and subsequent Toxicology results confirmed that the victim died as a result an acute drug overdose.

On February 4, 2010, following an 8 month investigation and in consultation with Manitoba Justice, Ernest Leon Mentuck was formally charged and arrested at the Brandon Correctional Institute in connection with the death. Mentuck remained in custody and appeared in Brandon Provincial Court on February 5, 2010.

Ernest Leon Mentuck is also facing the same charges in connection with the death of a 34-year-old former resident on September 12, 2009 in Waywayseecappo F.N. when RCMP and local EMS responded to an unresponsive male, later pronounced deceased, at a residence after CPR efforts failed to revive him. On September 15, 2009, an autopsy was completed at the Health Sciences Centre and cause of death has yet to be confirmed pending Toxicology Results.

The investigation continues.
