Equipment

Equipment collected at the skating and hockey equipment drive in Shamattawa.

The RCMP in Shamattawa are pleased to report that the skating and hockey equipment drive this past February was a total success.

The total equipment collected is as follows:

• Pairs of Skates – 112
• Helmets – 13
• Sticks – 50 (5 goalie sticks)
• Elbow pads – 12
• Pairs of Gloves – 13
• Shoulder pads – 19
• Pants – 25
• Pairs of goalie pads – 4
• Pairs of shin pads – 21
• Several jerseys, socks, pucks, laces and face guards.

This drive would not have been successful without the participation of many partner agencies, the City of Thompson, coworkers, family and friends.

On Saturday Feb 27, 2010, the RCMP Shamattawa members distributed the equipment collected, made sure it fit properly and showed some kids how to skate that had never experienced skating before. Members also held their weekly barbeque and served the crowd hotdogs and juice.

This overwhelming generosity has already provided the Shamattawa youth with an opportunity to engage in a healthy recreational activity that has the potential to provide many future positive benefits.

On behalf of the RCMP “D” Division Community, Contract and Aboriginal Policing and the RCMP Shamattawa Detachment, thank you for your donation, time and commitment to Manitoba youth.
