RCMP were able to locate and recover four snowmobilers who were missing since April 16, 2010.

On April 12, 2010 two people attempted to travel from Lac Brochet to Tadoule Lake by snowmobile and were expected to arrive on April 16, 2010. When their snowmobile broke down partway through the trip, a rescue attempt was made by two men from Tadoule Lake to reach the stranded travelers on April 19, 2010.

RCMP were contacted on April 20, 2010 by members of Sayisi Dene First Nation (Tadoule Lake) who were requesting assistance the next day if the travelers had not made it to the community by morning. The men were experienced in the bush and the community had no immediate concerns.

With no sign of the travelers in the morning, on April 21, 2010, an aerial search of the area was conducted with the RCMP plane, without success. Wet, muddy ground conditions and open water prevented any ground search efforts. Late in the day one of the travelers arrived in Tadoule Lake, after walking for 14 hours and provided the location of the remaining three men. All had become stranded when they ran out of gas. The remaining men were rescued the following morning from a trapper’s cabin by a helicopter, chartered from Thompson by RCMP, and returned to Tadoule Lake. No one was injured.
