Grants totalling $94,500 will help agriculture societies throughout Manitoba upgrade fair grounds, benefiting communities and adding to the enjoyment of popular local events, Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives Minister Stan Struthers announced.

“Community exhibitions and events held at local fairgrounds provide perfect opportunities for building community spirit and offering educational forums that often focus on agriculture while offering a venue for urban and rural consumers and their families to meet with Manitoba producers,” said Struthers. “Upgrades to the fairgrounds are usually provided by volunteers and local businesses and we are pleased to partner with them to help finance the projects they have identified as vital to sustaining these exciting events.”

There are 59 agricultural societies in Manitoba that can apply for funding to assist with expenses for projects such as developing show rings, upgrading electrical systems, improving livestock enclosures, building repairs and enhancements to facilities like grandstands and washrooms.

“All these infrastructure improvement projects add to the enjoyment and success of the many events held at Manitoba fair sites, which in turn results in economic benefits by attracting participants and spectators from near and far,” said the minister. “By helping local contributions go farther, we demonstrate our commitment to supporting the pride and determination which enhances and maintains vibrant, sustainable rural communities.”
