The RCMP Winnipeg Commercial Crime Section urges the public to be vigilant when accepting US $100 banknotes.

This warning is due to a dramatic increase in the number of counterfeit U.S. $100 banknotes being passed over the past two weeks in Edmonton and surrounding area.

These banknotes are of very good quality. They contain security features that closely mimic those found in genuine notes. Anyone not familiar with these features may be easily fooled into accepting these banknotes as genuine. Businesses and individuals are asked to be vigilant when accepting all unfamiliar currency. The majority are being tendered at retail businesses located in shopping malls.

It is recommended that employees working with cash become familiar with US currency and the security features.

Information regarding the security features of all US currency may be found at online. Canadian banknotes security features can be found here.
