Vic Toews announces funding for the Anola Community Club.

The Rural Municipality of Springfield is moving forward with renovations to the Anola Community Club thanks in part to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

“Community Centres are the cornerstone of a strong community,” said Minister Toews on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification. “This investment will create jobs right here in the R.M. of Springfield, while ensuring residents of the Anola area have access to this upgraded facility for many years to come.”

Renovations include replacing the heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical fixtures in the community club. Also, a section of the club that was assessed as unsound will be demolished and a new, larger addition will be built. This project will provide the community with more space for the recreational activities that are held in the community club like the dance and sports programs.

Funding of $237,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Projects like this one in the Rural Municipality of Springfield are helping to build the recreational infrastructure across the country, encouraging physical activity and community participation.

The RInC program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, Western Economic Diversification Canada has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
