The City of Steinbach was pleased to receive notice this week that the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, had approved a grant in the amount of $166,667 to help the City expand its walking path system to the Deerfield development on the east end of Steinbach.
Once completed, this pathway will extend pedestrian access to the new middle school that is being constructed. The City expects to begin the project in August of this year.
“This is an important addition to our communitys infrastructure network”, said Mayor Chris Goertzen. Council is pleased to have the support of the RInC program in this project.
“With investments like these our Governments Economic Action Plan is keeping people working, and ensuring a speedy, robust, and durable economic recovery”, said the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The RInC program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, WD has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
