On July 24, 2010 at approximately 5pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP were dispatched to the scene of a drowning at the Otter Falls campground in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.
 
Initial reports indicate an adult male and an adult female had been swimming in the river when the 59-year-old male was overpowered by the current and went under the water.
 
Immediate attempts were made to locate the man, but were unsuccessful. The woman was able to make it safely to shore.
 
The man has not been located and is presumed drowned. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team are assisting with the investigation. 
 
The name of the deceased will not be released pending notification of next of kin.

Update 07/28/10 11:49am

This morning RCMP have recovered a body near the location of the drowning. It is presumed to be the body of the man who was reported drowned earlier this week, however this cannot be confirmed pending positive identification of the deceased.
