Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sport Minister Eric Robinson said today he is thrilled to congratulate the many fine Manitoba artists who have been nominated for a Juno Award.

“I’m pleased to offer my congratulations to these superb artists,” Robinson said.  “They bring honour to themselves and to a province that has been home to many fine musicians over the years.”

Manitobans have taken 10 of the nominations handed out this year by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.  The 2009 Juno Award ceremonies will be broadcast on CTV on March 29 from General Motors Place in Vancouver.

Three Manitoba bands are in the roots and traditional album of the year (group) category:
 
• Chic Gamine for its self-titled debut,

• The Duhks for Fast Paced World, and

• Americana duo Twilight Hotel for Highway Prayer.

In the Aboriginal album of the year category, nominees include:

• Tracy Bone for No Lies;

• Team Rezofficial for The World (and Everything In It); and

• Billy Joe Green for First Law of the Land.

In other categories, the Manitoba nominees include:

• Doc Walker, country recording of the year for Beautiful Life;

• composer T. Patrick Carrabré, classical composition of the year for From the Dark Reaches;

• Paquin Entertainment’s Gilles Paquin with Joan Prowse, music DVD of the year for Buffy Sainte Marie’s A MultiMedia Life; and

• Big Dave McLean, blues album of the year for Acoustic Blues – Got ‘Em from the Bottom.

“This is an impressive list of highly talented people,” Robinson said.  “I wish all of them well on awards night.”
