The Manitoba government has added its voice to a tribute to the contributions of outstanding farmers and farm families at the Harvest Gala celebration, Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives Minister Stan Struthers said.

“We are pleased to acknowledge the important role our farm families and agricultural leaders play in our day-to-day lives and in our provincial economy,” said Struthers.  “Not only do they give Manitobans access to an abundance of high-quality foods and agricultural products, they also add significantly to our province’s trade and business opportunities within the agriculture sector.”

The government contributed $2,500 in sponsorship to the Harvest Gala, hosted by the Red River Exhibition Association (RREA) and the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame (MAHF) as part of Manitoba Homecoming 2010.  The celebration honoured past and present inductees to the hall of fame and the Red River Exhibition Farm Families of the Year.

“I would also like to congratulate the RREA and the MAHF for their ongoing support of the agriculture industry in our province and for hosting this Harvest Gala that shines a spotlight on Manitobans who have dedicated their lives to building and maintaining agriculture here in Manitoba,” said Struthers.

Funds raised through this event will support ongoing work of the MAHF and a MAHF scholarship for a student studying agriculture.
