On November 20, 2010 at about 1am, Carman Area RCMP, with the assistance of the Winkler Fire Department, were dispatched to a fatal pedestrian collision on Highway 32 about 2.5 miles south of Winkler.

An 18-year-old man, resident of North Dakota, who was walking north in the southbound lane of Highway 32, was struck by a southbound pick-up truck driven by an 18-year-old RM of Rhineland resident. RCMP report that the victim was wearing dark clothing. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deceased’s vehicle was found in a ditch near the collision site and suggests he may have been walking on the highway to get assistance in Winkler. Next of kin has been notified.

Lack of visibility is considered to be a contributing factor. Alcohol has been ruled out on the driver of the pick-up truck. An autopsy will be conducted in a Winnipeg Hospital.

The investigation continues with the assistance of a Forensic Collision Analyst.
