On December 13, 2010, at about 10:30am, Island Lake RCMP were advised that two trappers had left from St. Theresa Point by snowmobile on Sunday around noon and had not returned as scheduled.

Community members were preparing to begin a ground search, however, due to the extreme overnight temperatures and the vast amount of terrain to cover, Island Lake RCMP chartered a helicopter and at 11:30 began an aerial search for the missing men.

The two men, aged 28 and 55, were located about 40 miles from St. Theresa Point. Their snowmobile had broken down and they had spent the night in an abandoned trappers cabin.

Both men were airlifted back to St. Theresa Point and were taken to the nursing station for examination. They were reported to be in good health after spending a cold night in the woods.
