Accident scene on Highway 59 at the intersection of Provincial Road 317.

On January 8, 2011, at approximately 3:55pm, Selkirk RCMP along with local EMS and Fire Services responded to a collision between a snowmobile and a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado.

The collision occurred on Highway 59 at the intersection of Provincial Road 317, in the RM of St. Clements, Manitoba.

Investigation revealed that the driver of the 2008 Yamaha snowmobile was attempting to cross Highway 59 eastbound when it was struck by the northbound truck. As a result of the collision, the truck flipped onto the its side and came to rest in the eastbound median of PR 317.

The collision blocked northbound traffic on Highway 59 for approximately 40 minutes while the police investigated and EMS attended to the injured parties.

The operator of the snowmobile, a 20-year-old man from Winnipeg, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado was identified as a 49-year-old man, also from Winnipeg. He was treated by EMS on scene and released.

Visibility is believed to be a contributing factor in this collision. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor.

The investigation is continuing.
