It took over a year, but the renovation and expansion of Steinbach’s pump station by K.R. Barkman Park is officially complete.
“This project was an important one for Steinbach,” said Mayor Chris Goertzen. “Its completion means the city can continue to provide high quality drinking water and assures a high safety standard is met in the maintenance of this resource.”
Waterworks Department Head, Mike Heppner said, “We have already recognized the benefits of this upgrade. It has improved the operator’s ability to monitor the pre-treatment process of the City’s water treatment system.”
The expansion project began in July 2009 and saw the replacement of all piping in the facility as well as the installation of a new chlorine scrubber – a safety feature designed to automatically detect and neutralize any chlorine leaks.
The entire project was completed at a cost of $1.3 million.
