The Steinbach Arts Council presents “From the Beginning” art exhibit by John Nielsen at the Hall Gallery in the Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre from April 6 to May 2.
John Nielsen was born in Manitoba and has spent most of his life there, more than half of it in Portage la Prairie.
He has enjoyed drawing and painting for all of his life but it wasn’t until about 1990 that he was inspired to take up art more seriously. Since then he has taken several classes and workshops but most of what he has learned has been through constant practice. He has taken part in numerous exhibitions and has had 19 solo shows.
John has experimented with several media but feels most comfortable with watercolour. Recently he took up photography and is now enjoying the challenges that it has to offer.
In 2006 he retired and now devotes most of his time to creating art. Most of his interests are art related; he is a member of the Portage Camera Club and he is a volunteer with the Portage Arts Centre as a member of the hanging committee.
He leads a quiet life with his wife Donna. They have a daughter and a grandson.
