Throughout the month of August, Canada Safeway has flexed their corporate muscles through their fundraising and awareness campaign, Make Muscles Move, in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada. This national month long campaign raises much needed funds to support valuable research as well as provide “Safeway Mobility Grants” to hundreds of families living with neuromuscular disorders.
“The efforts of Safeway staff and volunteers, and Muscular Dystrophy Canada volunteers in over 30 Manitoba Safeway stores have been absolutely phenomenal,” says Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s Manitoba Revenue Development Manager, Kristen Pachet. “We are very much a grass roots charity, and to see the large amount raised through checkstand donations, BBQ’s, raffles, bake sales and other such events reminds us once again of how very generous Manitobans are when it comes to supporting their friends and neighbours. We cannot thank Canada Safeway enough for all that they do to support our mission.”
Manitobans can do their part to “Make Muscles Move” until September 5th by visiting the Steinbach Safeway or any local Safeway store and making a donation at the checkstand, or by supporting the store’s unique fundraising efforts.
50,000 Canadians are living with one of more than 150 neuromuscular disorders under the Muscular Dystrophy Canada umbrella. In addition to funding leading research to find the causes, treatments and cures for these disorders, Muscular Dystrophy Canada also provides the support that these families need – education, information about neuromuscular disorders, funding for mobility equipment, advocacy and peer support.
