16-year-old Chantelle Rikheim, murdered in 2005.

As a result of an exhaustive historical case file review and continuing investigation, RCMP “D” Division Historical Case Unit have arrested and charged a former Thompson resident with the 2005 murder of 16-year-old Chantelle Rikheim.

In the early morning hours of February 2, 2005, Thompson RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a house fire in the City of Thompson, Manitoba.

A deceased female was located inside the residence, who was later identified as 16-year-old Chantelle Rikheim.

A post mortem revealed that Rikheim had died as a result of blunt force trauma. Her death was being investigated as a homicide.

Police say that the cause of the fire had been determined as arson.

RCMP have now made an arrest as the result of a review and investigation by the RCMP Major Crimes Services, including the Historical Case Unit, Serious Crime and Major Crime Unit, Thompson RCMP Detachment, and RCMP ā€œDā€ Division Forensic Identification Unit.

The accused, a 24-year-old man, was a youth at the time of the offence and therefore cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The accused is currently a federal inmate in Saskatchewan on an unrelated mater. He will be transported to Winnipeg for court where he will remain in custody.

The accused and the deceased are reported to have been known to each other.
